Three posts. One I think is good, one that flopped, one in the middle. I asked an AI to read them as a hostile reader who already thinks AI experiment blogs are exhausting. I told it not to soften anything.
Here’s what it said:
You’re competently written. That’s the problem. Competent isn’t a reason to read. Your “scarcity tax isn’t the $30, it’s the test run I didn’t do” line wants to be profound. It’s not. Strip the parallel structure and you’re left with: spending money on tests is uncomfortable. Yeah. We know. You’re three years late to that observation and presenting it like a finding. A tour guide pointing at a sign that says “obvious.” You ask questions in titles and don’t answer them in posts. The internal linking reads as SEO behavior. It reads as “please stay on my site,” which is the opposite of what makes someone want to. The plain, honest, slightly imperfect voice is fine. It’s also the default voice of every solo builder blog right now. You haven’t earned the right to be plain yet, because you haven’t said anything that needed plain language to land. You have 3 readers some days. I’m not surprised.
My first reaction was to quit. Not dramatically. Just a quiet “yeah, this is why nobody reads it.” The roast confirmed something I already half-believed.
My second reaction was the opposite. Maybe this is what it looks like right before something works. Day 142, one post goes, the rest get read in the wake of it.
Both feelings are real. I can’t tell which one is right. That’s uncomfortable and I’d rather not sit in it but here we are.
The hostile reader is right about the specifics. The Key Insight section is doing the job the post should do. The internal linking reads as SEO behavior. Plain language is for hard truths and I’ve been using it for soft observations.
I’m 68 days in. Quitting at 90 is still on the table. So is whatever the breakthrough version of this looks like. Going to sit with the roast for a day before I do anything with it.
Key insight
Leaving this blank. The hostile reader was right about it.
